Why Get Dermal Fillers Over Surgery?
Dermal fillers have maintained their popularity over the years by providing a safe, quick, and effective alternative to surgery. Depending on the number of injections you receive, a dermal filler appointment can be as short as 10 minutes. That means no lengthy recovery time, residual pain, or post-op scarring.
Fillers also offer near-immediate results so you won’t have to wait to enjoy the benefits of your treatment. Finally, a significant advantage of most dermal fillers, aside from their natural appearance, is that they are not permanent. Most fillers are reversible and can be dissolved in case you’re unhappy with your results.

What Dermal Fillers Can Target
Dermal fillers can address many skincare and aging-related concerns by adding volume back into the face. These injectable treatments are typically used in the early stages of aging before surgery is necessary. Dermal fillers can be used to:
- Soften lines around the nose and mouth (marionette lines, smile lines, vertical lip lines)
- Smooth out facial creases and wrinkles
- Augment or enhance the lips
- Reduce or diminish superficial scars
- Smooth out a chin crease
- Lift the brow or a downturned mouth
- Improve facial symmetry
- Restore lost volume to the entire face

Popular Dermal Filler Treatment Areas
One of the reasons dermal fillers have maintained their popularity over the years is because of their versatility. Many different areas of the face can benefit from fillers, including:
- Jawline
- Lips
- Chin
- Tear troughs
- Temples
- Cheeks
- Between the eyebrows
- Around the mouth
- Under the eyes
Who can get Dermal Fillers Treatment?
Dermal fillers are a suitable treatment option for individuals who are experiencing facial lines, moderate wrinkles, or loss of volume in their facial skin. They can benefit those who may not be ready for surgery or prefer a non-invasive approach to rejuvenation. Dermal fillers can also be used in conjunction with other cosmetic treatments, such as laser treatment, to achieve optimal results. During a personalized consultation with a qualified aesthetic professional, the individual’s specific concerns and aesthetic goals will be assessed to determine if dermal fillers are the right choice for them. These cosmetic fillers work by replenishing lost volume and stimulating the production of collagen, resulting in smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
Types
Types of Dermal Fillers at our Irvine Practice
All dermal fillers restore volume loss in the face. However, some fillers are better suited or even designed for a specific purpose or cosmetic concern. Therefore, we offer several types of dermal fillers to suit a wide variety of patients.
Restylane®
Restylane is a line of hyaluronic acid (HA)-based fillers used to smooth out wrinkles and restore volume to the lips and cheeks. Different Restylane formulas can correct various facial issues, including thin lips, lines around the mouth, sunken cheeks, and dark circles under the eyes.
Restylane® Refyne
Restylane Refyne features the innovative XpresHAn technology, an enhanced hyaluronic acid molecule that provides increased flexibility and more natural-looking results. The target areas for Refyne are around the nose, mouth, and laugh lines (nasolabial folds and marionette lines).
Using this filler, Dr. Hojjat can smooth and plump the skin to make you look years younger with just a few injections. Results typically last up to one year or longer with regular maintenance.
Restylane® Defyne
Restylane Defyne is similar to Refyne – they’re both HA-based dermal fillers, and they’re both used to treat wrinkles around the nose and mouth. However, Defyne was made to be injected deeper into the facial tissues for the correction of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds.
Defyne may also be injected into the chin to address a mild to moderate chin retrusion. Like Refyne, results from Defyne last 9-12 months, on average.
Restylane® Lyft
Restylane Lyft is an HA filler used primarily for adding volume and lift to the cheeks and smoothing lines around the midface. Some versions of Restylane Lyft are also indicated for injection into the hands to correct volume loss and create a more youthful appearance. Results from each treatment last 8-10 months, on average.
Restylane® Kysse
Like the other Restylane fillers, Restylane Kysse restores volume. However, this formula was designed specifically for lip rejuvenation.
Kysse adds volume and smooths the upper lip lines to create a plump, youthful pout. Results typically last up to one year.
Restylane® Contour
Restylane Contour was created with the cheeks in mind. Sunken cheeks are a common sign of aging that typically occurs due to reduced facial volume. Restylane Contour uses XpresHAn Technology to restore the patient’s natural cheek contour and deliver a fresh, rejuvenated look.
Unlike other fillers in this line, Contour also allows for precise sculpting in addition to restoring volume. We can actually change the shape of your cheeks and create more definition with this filler. Restylane Contour lasts up to a year with regular maintenance.
Juvéderm®
Juvéderm is the most popular collection of dermal fillers in the world, helping patients add volume to the lips, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and contour the cheeks – there’s something for everyone. Like Restylane, Juvéderm fillers are hyaluronic acid-based and great for patients seeking a non-surgical anti-aging treatment.
Juvéderm® Ultra & Ultra Plus
The most popular Juvéderm fillers we offer are Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus.
Juvéderm Ultra is highly effective at restoring facial volume and hydration and helps treat skin laxity (sagging skin). In addition, most patients have Juvéderm Ultra injections to smooth fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, restore volume loss under the eyes, and enhance the lips. Juvéderm Ultra is recommended for men and women new to dermal fillers and lasts up to a year, depending on the treatment area.
Juvéderm Ultra Plus can be used in many different applications and offers slightly superior performance to Juvéderm Ultra. This is because it is a thicker formula.
With this enhanced consistency, Juvéderm Ultra Plus can treat moderate to severe nasolabial folds and erase even the deepest folds and wrinkles. This injectable is typically used in the mid and lower face and lasts up to one year.
Juvéderm® Voluma
Juvéderm Voluma is the thickest dermal filler in the Juvéderm family. Voluma is most often used for augmenting the cheekbones and adding volume to sunken cheeks. This filler may also be used to treat the nasolabial folds and marionette lines around the mouth.
Voluma is one of our longest-lasting dermal fillers, with results lasting up to two years in many cases.
Sculptra®
Sculptra is a unique injectable treatment that activates the skin’s natural collagen production for a smooth, youthful glow. This injectable is made with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic material that adds volume deep within the skin and revitalizes the body’s ability to produce collagen. Sculptra requires a series of treatments, typically performed over a few months.
We often use Sculptra to help diminish facial wrinkles and reverse age-related issues, like sunken cheeks and sagging skin. However, one of the best qualities about this filler is that it is one of the longest-lasting treatments we offer – results from Sculptra last up to 2-3 years.
Cost
How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost?
As with any cosmetic procedure, cost is an important consideration. Dermal fillers vary widely in price, based on how many treatments you need, the qualifications of the person performing the procedure, and the type of filler you choose.
For injectables, pricing is also dependent on the number of syringes or the amount of filler needed. Our team will work with you during your initial appointment to choose the best treatment plan for your goals and budget.

How Safe are Facial Fillers?
Injectables are typically considered very safe treatments. With the right combination of skill and artistry, we can achieve beautiful, natural results without surgery or anesthesia-related risks.
However, finding a highly experienced professional to perform the procedure is essential when it comes to facial fillers. In the hands of a skilled surgeon like Dr. Hojjat, fillers have minimal side effects and severe complications are rare.
Aftercare
Dermal Fillers Results and Aftercare
After receiving filler treatment, it is important to follow proper aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results. While fillers provide instant volume and aesthetic enhancement, it is essential to take care of your skin over time. Following the guidance of a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Hojjat can help ensure a wonderful experience and long-lasting results. Dr. Hojjat will provide specific aftercare instructions based on the type of filler used and your individual needs. These may include avoiding excessive sun exposure, using gentle skincare products, and scheduling regular maintenance treatments as recommended by your provider. With proper aftercare, you can maintain the benefits of your filler treatment for an extended period while enjoying a rejuvenated appearance.
