Discover the Benefits of Chin Augmentation
Step into a realm of enhanced facial harmony with Chin Augmentation, uncovering three compelling benefits aimed at crafting your desired aesthetic.
Mentoplasty
What Is Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation is a type of plastic surgery that is performed to improve the shape and projection of the chin for an enhanced appearance and facial profile. For example, a patient who was born with a receding chin or has a poorly defined jawline due to aging might wish to augment their chin to achieve better facial harmony.
Mentoplasty is a very common, minimally invasive, and medically safe surgery that involves the placement of a permanent, synthetic implant. The procedure is individually tailored to the patient’s needs and goals. This includes the type, size, and shape of the implant used to achieve the desired results.
Realistic Expectations
Good Candidates for Chin Augmentation
In general, if you are in good health and wish to improve the appearance of your chin and face, you are likely to be a good candidate for facial implants. Chin augmentation can improve facial balance and enhance the face as a whole.
However, the procedure isn’t right for everyone. Dr. Hojjat might advise you to postpone having a chin augmentation procedure or choose a different treatment based on your needs and goals.
Candidates must also have realistic expectations and be smoke-free for several weeks before and after the procedure. You can talk further with Dr. Hojjat during your consultation to better understand your candidacy and treatment options.
Schedule a consultation
The Chin Enhancement Consultation
Your consultation will give you one-on-one time with Dr. Hojjat so that you can share your goals for your chin augmentation procedure, ask any questions you have about facial implants, learn about possible financing options, and outline a plan for your procedure.
During your consultation, Dr. Hojjat will go over your personal and family medical history to identify any issues that may impact the outcome of your chin augmentation procedure. He will also conduct a physical examination of your face and chin area to gain an accurate understanding of your facial structure and your personal goals for the procedure.
Dr. Hojjat will take some “before” photos of your chin and face from the front and side views. He may make some notes and marks on these photos to indicate plans for your procedure. Before you leave Dr. Hojjat’s office, you will have an opportunity to schedule your chin augmentation procedure if you are ready to do so.
The Procedure
The Chin Augmentation Procedure
A chin augmentation procedure generally takes between 30 minutes and one hour from start to finish.
The procedure can be performed with local anesthesia or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s desires and if any other procedures are also performed at the same time. When you arrive, Dr. Hojjat’s staff will ensure you are comfortable. Dr. Hojjat will then review notes from your consultation and answer any final questions you may have. Once the anesthesia is administered your procedure will begin. Typically, full general anesthesia is not needed for this procedure, unless it is combined with another surgery, such as rhinoplasty.
During your procedure, Dr. Hojjat will make a small incision in an unobtrusive location (typically under the chin area or on the inside of your lower lip area so there will be no visible scarring). The implant will be inserted and placed and the incision will be sutured.
You can return home the day of your procedure. Dr. Hojjat will make sure you have all of the instructions for taking care of the incision site during your recovery and any pain medication prescriptions you may need. You can contact the office at any time if you have questions or concerns.
In addition to the chin augmentation procedure, there are other techniques available to enhance the appearance of the chin, such as chin filler. Chin fillers involve the injection of hyaluronic acid or other materials into the chin to create volume and improve contour. While fillers can be a quick and non-invasive alternative to chin surgery, the results are typically temporary and may require ongoing maintenance treatments to maintain the desired look. Additionally, chin fillers may not be suitable for patients looking for significant changes to the size or shape of their chin, as they provide a more subtle enhancement compared to the surgical chin augmentation procedure. Ultimately, the choice between these techniques will depend on the individual’s specific needs and preferences, and should be discussed with a qualified and experienced practitioner.
Recommendations
Recovering From a Chin Augmentation Procedure
You may experience some temporary side effects after your procedure. These can include some generalized discomfort, swelling, and a bit of bruising at or near the incision sites and in the area where the implant was placed. These side effects can be easily managed with pain medication during the first few days.
You may also find it uncomfortable to smile, talk, or use your normal full range of facial expressions until the swelling subsides. For this reason, most patients delay their return to work for three to five days after their procedure.
After five to seven days have passed, you will return for your post-procedure checkup. During this checkup, Dr. Hojjat will also remove your sutures.
